Our director decided to set this production in the Louisiana Bayou so we wanted to use murky colors to give the feel of the swamp and also use some greens and purples to give the mystical feel our director wanted R02 and R99 washed the stage to compliment the colors of the houses. We also used R89 and R39 on the trees upstage and downstage with the spanish moss.

After speaking with the director, we agreed that gentle & unobtrusive lighting would work the best for this small scale production.
R02 - Bastard Amber - Used as front and side light; created a warm environment for the Jerome household that looked natural on the actors' skin tones.

R16 - Light Amber, R71 - Sea Blue, R14 - Medium Straw
I needed an amber that complimented my blue top-light well, and would mix well with a straw for a cue where a character opens a set of blinds, casting sunlight on the stage. I also wanted a blue that not only went well with that, but I could wash the entire stage in for an early morning scene, including washing the cyc to really sell that brisk, chilly mood of dawn.

My final work at university was a production of Caryl Churchill's A Mouthful of Birds.
The climax of the first half of the play is a scene called 'Extreme Happiness' where the characters are overcome with ecstasy and (in our production) the whole building vibrates with the feeling, heading towards collapse. I used R02, R38, R40 and R377 to convey a sense of excitement and excess, of a loss of control and a departure from reality.
