'The Lives of Giants' is the Cambodian version of an ancient Sanskrit epic. It tells the story of a giant in the heavenly realm who, abused by his contemporaries, resorts to violence and brings disarray to the world. In choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro's dance piece, it becomes a vehicle to lament the triumph of violence over compassion. My scenic design for the production which toured the US placed the heavens in the depths of an otherworldly lily pond - in silhouette upstage and graphically downstage. The costumes were vivid colors, accented in gold.

Eurydice, directed by Mark Cirnigliaro for the Jameson Theater Company.
An experimental theater company that only has 24 dimmers.
It's a challenge.
Eurydice, a play by Sarah Ruhl, was also a challenge especially given the limitations of the space.

It involves the underworld, which had some freaky "stones" as characters, back lit with R39, and the underworld was pretty much created using only R66, and R39. Teal is scary.

Other colors were: r08, r33, r51, and r19 which we ended up nicknaming "Fuckin' red!".

R27 and R69

Though I do not have any pictures of the effect I created with the R27 and R69 gels, it was for a police siren at the opening of the show. I wanted to convey a car accident to the audience and due to the low budget of the show the best way to do this was with sound and lights. There was a crash sound followed by a chase of the R27 and R69 to signify the police coming to the car accident.

Rosco supergel #25, a great sidelight colour for this particular scene of "Hey big Spender" Gave a real depth of colour to the faces and worked well with the uplight and cross light from SR.
