This production of King Lear is an adaptation where (Queen) Lear divides up her fashion empire company between her daughters, but they turn on her and banish her. The show takes place inside her office as well as in front of it.
I used R02 and R60 for my front light for the outdoor scenes, but once we went into the office the colors shifted to a harsher light, and I used just R119 as a diffusion and kept the light neutral.
The red is used throughout the office because that is the companies signature look, and helps support the atmosphere. Also after Lear's daughters take over the company they begin remodeling, and rip out all the cloth walls revealing more metal beams. These silver beams reflected more of the red light and created a stark look with the dark depths behind them.
And finally, Lear is Banished to Dover, which is by the sea, so I used several different blues to suggest the water, while using R02 on the actors for the warm sunlight.
