Rosco, founded in 1910, is best known for the products it originally manufactured: color filters, gobos, scenic paints and fog products for the entertainment industry.

The company now offers products in more than a dozen categories, including LED Lighting, Backdrops and Digital Imagery, Window Control, Image and Effect Projection Equipment, Staging Products, Projection Screens and Flooring products for dance and television studios.

With innovations such as LitePad, SoftDrop, the Cube Family and the Silk LED Lighting System, Rosco has extended its market-reach by developing a large portfolio of solutions for the architectural and film & television markets.

The company has been honored with four awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the "Oscars"). The awards were for Rosco's Cinegel range of lighting filters and the CalColor range of lighting filters. Other awards were won for the company's backdrops and fog machines.

Rosco's headquarters are in Stamford, Connecticut, with other US facilities near Austin, Texas and Hollywood, California. A truly multi-national company, Rosco maintains fully staffed businesses in Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, and Spain.

    Rosco Cinegel earns an Academy Award® for the development of a complete system of lighting control filters

    Rosco is again recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences, this time with an award for the development of Rosco Fog Fluid.

Rosco is founded

1910
1958

Stan Miller and Len Kraft buy Rosco from Sydney Rosenstein

1962

Rosco moves from Brooklyn to Harrison, NY

1970

Expansion continues and Rosco moves its headquarters to Port Chester, NY

1973

Rosco Cinegel earns an Academy Award® for the development of a complete system of lighting control filters

1974

Rosco opens a Los Angeles office to better serve the LA film and television markets

1975

Rosco’s first international office opens in London

1976

Roscolux filters debut; Stan Schwartz joins Rosco to lead the company’s Marketing efforts

1982

Rosco grows internationally again, opening offices in Spain and Canada

1984

Rosco is again recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences, for their development of Rosco Fog Fluid

1989

Rosco Brazil opens, followed two years later by Rosco Australia

1992

Developing computer printed backing for motion pictures as well as the Department of Defense, Pixmill opens in San Diego, and is later reborn as Rosco Digital Imaging

1995

Rosco develops new products and technologies in gobos and dichroic filters, opening a manufacturing facility in Texas specifically dedicated to this business

1996

Rosco continues to grow, moving its global headquarters to its current home in Stamford, Connecticut

1999

In conjunction with scientists at Eastman Kodak, Rosco develops CalColor, receiving both an Academy Award® as well as a U.S. Patent

2001

The development of the Day/Night Backdrop earns Rosco a fourth Academy Award®

2003

X24 Effects Projector introduced

2005

Recognizing growing opportunities in Asia, Rosco adds sales presence in Tokyo and Beijing

2007

Introduction of LitePad, Rosco’s first LED fixture

2008

Mark Engel named CEO of Rosco

2010

100 years of Rosco! Also, Rosco's Spectrum blog debuts

2012

A partnership with the design firm The Black Tank is established, and Rosco’s first LED Cube product, Miro Cube, is developed

2013

Acquisition of GAM Products, one of Rosco’s primary filter competitors; Edward Donohue named President of Rosco NA; Kees Frijters named President of Rosco EMEA

2015

SoftDrop cotton day/night backdrop introduced; Rosco's new office in Dubai establishes the company’s presence in the Middle East

2016

Silk Softlight family of LED fixtures introduced
